The StoryChief MCP server is a new feature that lets you connect StoryChief with Zapier using natural language actions. Use it to automate content workflows, trigger StoryChief actions, and integrate publishing into your existing automation setup.

In this article:

1. Setting up StoryChief MCP in Zapier

Step 1. Go to https://mcp.zapier.com/mcp/servers to set up the MCP server.

Step 2. Select "+ New MCP Server" in the middle of the screen or at the top-left.

Step 3. For the MCP client, choose "Other" and provide a name, such as "StoryChief MCP". When working with multiple workspaces, we also advise to add the workspace name.

Step 4. After setting up the MCP server, tools can be added. Select '+ Add tool' and search for StoryChief. Then, select the actions to add to the MCP server:

  • Create or Update Contact

  • Create an Ebook

  • Create a Keyword

  • Create a newsletter

  • Create a Podcast

  • Postset

  • Create Story (= Create articles)

  • Create a Video

  • Create a Webinar

  • Create a Webpage

Step 5. For each action, select the menu and choose 'Configure'. Here, change the option for tags, categories & custom fields to "Do not include a value for this field".

πŸ”” Note: This is a weird quirk in the Zapier MCP server for StoryChief, for which we are in contact with Zapier to resolve it.

Step 6. Go to the 'Connect' tab to find the information to connect the Zapier MCP server to clients such as Claude and ChatGPT.

πŸ”” Note: The MCP URL shouldn't be made public or shared carelessly. The URL functions as the authentication, so treat this as a password.

2. Connect StoryChief MCP in Claude

πŸ”” Note: Claude requires a paying subscription to connect MCP servers.

Step 1. Log in to Claude and navigate to the Connectors πŸ‘‰ Quick link.

Here, select "Add custom connector".

Step 2. Paste the server URL from Zapier and give it a recognizable name (e.g. "StoryChief MCP") and select 'Add'. Repeat for all workspaces.

Step 3. You are ready, you can now prompt Claude and ask it to create a webpage or a social post inside of StoryChief. Inside a chat make sure to enable the MCP server for your client and no others.

3. Connect StoryChief MCP in ChatGPT

Step 1. Log in to ChatGPT and navigate to "Apps & Connectors" in the settings. Scroll down to Advanced settings

Step 2. Enable Developer mode.

Step 3. Go back and select "Create app". Give it a recognizable name (e.g. "StoryChief MCP") and paste the server URL from Zapier.

For the authentication, select "No auth". The URL itself functions as the authentication.

Step 4. You are ready, you can now prompt ChatGPT and ask it to create content inside of StoryChief.

Extra: When working with multiple MCP servers (for other workspaces), make sure to enable the MCP server for your client and no others.

4. Tips & tricks

MCP allows AI chats to take actions (create articles, social posts, etc.) in StoryChief, but it still relies heavily on clear instructions from you.

Best practices:

  • Be explicit about what you want created (article vs social post).

  • This MCP is built on Zapier, so some naming may differ. In this setup, a β€œstory” equals a StoryChief Article β€” ask the chat to create a story when you want an article.

  • StoryChief Articles (stories) support Markdown for content formatting.

  • If something looks off, try refining your prompt.

  • Enable only the MCP server you actually need

    • Only one MCP server should be enabled in the chat (matching the correct client).

    • Having multiple MCP servers active can confuse AI chats, cause content to be pushed to the wrong workspace and result in failed or partial executions
