Imagine generating your content in ChatGPT and having your drafts automagically appear in your StoryChief account. No, you’re not dreaming, this is real! ✨

Whether your company uses ChatGPT as the go-to AI tool or you just love working in it, you can keep using ChatGPT to create content and have it imported into StoryChief with just a couple of clicks; or even with a voice command.

Even better: you can first also draft content based on other tools connected to ChatGPT. For example: Get Semrush keywords β†’ create your article in ChatGPT β†’ send it directly to StoryChief.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to enable StoryChief MCP quickly and safely. No IT wizardry or advanced tech skills required.

❌ Limitations:

  • This integration is currently in beta in ChatGPT. At the moment, it's only available in Developer mode for Pro and Plus accounts on the web.

  • ChatGPT projects don’t have access to tools, so StoryChief can only be used in standard chats.

  • If you try this on a free plan, it might look like it works, but the MCP server won’t actually be added. You need a paid ChatGPT plan.

In this article:

1. Start setting up StoryChief MCP in ChatGPT

Step 1. Enable "developer mode" on ChatGPT by going to Settings > Apps > Advanced settings (link). Enable the toggle.

Step 2. Create a new app by going to Settings > Apps (link) and clicking the Create App button.

Step 3. Enter the MCP Server information:

  • Icon (optional): StoryChief logo (πŸ‘‰ Public link)

  • Name: StoryChief

  • Description (optional): StoryChief

  • Authentication: OAuth

    • OAuth Client ID (optional) -> Leave empty

    • OAuth Client Secret (Optional) -> Leave empty

Then, check the I trust this application checkbox and click the Create button.

πŸ’‘ Note: If you are an agency with multiple workspaces or you have multiple brands on StoryChief, you can connect each of them to your ChatGPT account. To do so, create a separate app for each. Give each app a clear name.

Example:
Workspace: Microsoft

App name: Microsoft - StoryChief MCP

Workspace: Apple

App name: Apple - StoryChief MCP

Step 4. You will be redirected to a StoryChief authorization screen.
Here, select the workspace to give access to and press Authorize.

Step 5. When starting a new chat, enable StoryChief by selecting "+" β†’ "More" β†’ "StoryChief".

πŸŽ‰ You're done, grab a coffee, you deserve it!

2. Usage (Limitations, tips & tricks)

a. Limitations

❌ Media generated by any AI chat is private media, so there isn't a public URL available to use this media when pushing media to StoryChief.

πŸ‘‰ Workaround 1 for ChatGPT: Download the generated media and manually upload it to the social post in StoryChief.

πŸ‘‰ Workaround 2 for ChatGPT: Use a different MCP/connector to upload the image to a DAM and use this public link in the content. (⚠️ Most DAMs don't have upload access yet in AI chats)
