Step-by-step guide for linking your Semrush API key to unlock SEO data inside StoryChief.
Connecting Semrush gives you access to keyword data and SEO insights directly inside StoryChief, without switching tools. Once linked, StoryChief can pull Semrush data to support smarter content decisions at the planning and creation stage.
🔔 Note: You'll need to have completed the following before starting:
An active Semrush subscription with API access enabled (see Semrush help article)
Admin access to your StoryChief workspace

1. Connect Semrush in StoryChief
Step 1. In StoryChief, navigate to Strategy and open the Plugins & Skills section in the left sidebar.
Step 2. Search for Semrush in the list and select it to open the connection panel.
Step 3. Click Install to see the API key field.
Step 4. In a new tab, log in to your Semrush account and click your profile icon in the top-right corner. Click Subscription info in the dropdown menu.
Step 5. On the Subscription info page, open the API Units tab. Click Copy to copy your key.
💡 Tip: Your API key is partially masked for security. The Copy button grabs the full key even if you can't see it.
Step 6. Go back to StoryChief and paste your API key into the designated field in the Semrush connector panel and click Connect to confirm the integration.
🔔 Note: If the connection fails, double-check that your Semrush plan includes API access. The API Units tab in Semrush should show a unit count above 0.
