Start adding media to your article
1. Embed images
A text-heavy article can put off readers, so include images! Here's how:
Step 1. Open/create an article from your Articles list.
Step 2. In the Write tab of an article, hit enter for a new line and the media embedder bar appears. Click on the "Add image" option.
Step 4. The options will now be displayed:
Upload image: choose an image file from your own computer to use
Generate image with AI: Create your own suited images (help article)
Select from the media library: choose a previously used image.
Search free stock images: find an image from the Unsplash database.
Upload from URL: paste in a public link to an image.
Upload from cloud storage: connect your cloud storage first to enable this option.
To find a stock image, just enter a keyword into the search box and press Enter. A gallery of images will then be presented to you. Click on one of the images to automatically add it to your article.
Click on your chosen image to alter multiple aspects of it.
The size of the image in the article. Depending on the actual size, larger options may not be available. If the picture is large enough, you can even choose another size (larger or fullscreen).
Add a link to the image. When a reader clicks on it, they will be sent to the URL specified.
The alt tag of the image. Useful for adding a text description of what the image is showing. Allows search engines to crawl through your website easier and offers more accessibility for visually impaired readers.
Edit the image directly inside StoryChief (crop/apply filters/add shapes/rotate/flip). More info.
Add a caption for the image.
2. Embed image galleries
Step 1. In the article, hit enter for a new line and the media embedder bar. Click on the 'Add image gallery' option.
Step 2. Click on "Organize".
Step 5. Add images from one or multiple of the options:
Upload image: choose an image file from your own computer to use
Generate image with AI: Create your own suited images (help article)
Select from the media library: choose a previously used image.
Free stock images (Upload from Unsplash): find an image from the Unsplash database.
Upload from URL: paste in a public link to an image.
Upload from cloud storage: connect your cloud storage first to enable this option.
Afterwards, you can include a title and caption for each image. Click "Save" when finished.
The image gallery is then embedded into your article. Use the arrows located on each side to change the image.
If you click on the gallery, you can:
Change the size in the article.
Edit/add/remove images used in the gallery.
Add a caption below the entire gallery.
3. Embed videos
Step 1. In the article, hit enter for a new line and the media embedder bar. Click on the 'Add video' option.
Step 2. Enter the URL of a video you want to embed from Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or Spotlightr. (Find the full list in your account) Press enter to add it to your article.
π‘ Tip: It's now possible to embed YouTube-nocookie.com videos. Just paste a regular YouTube URL and it will be changed in the background. Your audience can now enjoy your embeds without having their data tracked.
β Limitations: Our editor only supports .mp4 because this file format is supported by all browsers, whereas .mov is not. Embedding videos from Cloudinary only supports .mp4 files.
By clicking on the video, you can change the size of the player. You are also able to add a caption below.
4. Do I have to optimize image sizes?
No. Even if you upload big images to StoryChief, the app will resize them to fit the different mediums without cropping or magnifying (this way you would lose quality). Also, the weight (mb>kb) will be reduced automatically.
If you use StoryChief to collaborate on offline articles, make sure to upload images of 300 dpi.
When you're in an article, click on the 3 dots at the top-right side, and then on 'download'. You can export the story to:
Word (docx)
PDF
