How AI credits work in StoryChief

See what uses AI credits, how much each action costs, and how to check your balance or add more.

Written by Victor

Every AI action in StoryChief draws from one shared pool of AI credits. That covers the agent, inline AI, content generation, images, and video. Knowing what each action costs helps you plan your month and avoid running out mid-project. This guide explains how credits work, what each feature costs, and how to get more.

In this article

1. How credits work

Credits measure how much AI work StoryChief does for you. Longer, more complex requests use more credits than short, simple ones. For text, usage is based on the amount of text the AI reads and writes. For images and video, each generation has a fixed cost.

Your workspace has two kinds of credits:

  • Monthly credits come with your plan. They reset on the 1st of each month and do not roll over.

  • Extra credits come from credit packs or rewards. They never expire.

StoryChief uses your monthly credits first. When they run out, it uses your extra credits.

🔔 Note: AI credits are tracked per workspace. Everyone in the workspace draws from the same balance.

3. Agent (AI Assistant) usage

The agent works through multi-step tasks for you, such as researching a topic, drafting content, or building a plan. Credits are based on the work it does during a task.

Longer and more complex tasks use more credits. Asking AI to research a topic, certain keywords, or competitors before actually drafting will use substantially more than asking to write an article about a generic topic.

You can choose a speed for the agent:

Speed

Credit rate

Standard

1×

Fast

2×

Fast returns results sooner, and it uses more credits to do so.

💡 Tip: Be specific in your request. A focused task like "Draft an outline for an article about X" costs less than an open-ended one. You can review and edit everything the agent produces before it goes anywhere.

4. Inline AI and content generation

Inline AI covers the actions in the editor: Explain, Simplify, Change tone, Expand, Paraphrase, Translate, Spelling, Summarize, and SEO optimize. It also covers generating meta titles, meta descriptions, and excerpts.

Content generation covers creating a blog post, social post, newsletter, ebook, podcast, webinar, video script, press release, or webpage with AI.

Both are billed on the amount of text processed, both what you send and what the AI writes back. In practice:

  • Working on a short selection costs very little.

  • Generating a full article costs more than a social post.

  • Longer source material, such as a big brief or a long selected text, adds to the cost.

🔔 Note: Regenerating content uses credits each time. Review the first result and edit it before you regenerate.

5. Ideas and plagiarism checks

Action

Generate article or social ideas

50 credits per idea

Plagiarism check

100 credits per 300 words

Examples:

  • Generating 5 ideas costs 250 credits.

  • Checking plagiarism on a 900-word article costs 300 credits.

6. AI visibility

AI visibility shows how your brand appears in AI answers. It's controlled by a prompt allowance, not by your credit balance. This is the number of prompts you can track.

7. Images and videos

Images and videos have fixed costs, so you know the price before you generate.

Editing an image costs the same as generating one. If you generate several images at once, the cost is multiplied.

8. Check your usage and get more credits

Step 1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner.

Step 2. Look at the AI usage card. It shows how much of your Monthly allowance is left and how many Extra credits you have.

Step 3. To add more credits, click Buy extra credits and choose a pack.

You can also upgrade your plan or add the AI add-on for a higher monthly allowance.

🔔 Note: Only workspace owners and admins can buy extra credits. On agency accounts, only the owner can. For child workspaces, ask the parent workspace owner to buy credits in Workspace management.

❌ Limitation: If you run out of credits, AI actions pause until your monthly credits reset or you add extra credits. Everything else in StoryChief keeps working.
